Hi Ammar,
Usually I would not recommend you take Step 2 CK before Step 1. But if you want to, then I suggest you study pathology especially pathophysiology and pharmacology with Step 2 CK as they comprise up to 25% of Step 2CK even though they are primarily Step 1 subjects.

i have just graduated and doing my clinical rotation in the hospital. i recently gave PLAB 1 n was planing to give step 2 ck next .i hav’nt given step 1 as yet pls guide me if i should give step 2 ck before step 1.

Hey askdoc. You are doing a wonderful job out here.

I gave NBME 2 and UWSA for step 2 ck simultaneously.. Nbme 2 first and then followed by UWSA.
my score in nbme was 228 and in UWSA was 233 (570)…. my exam in a week. any suggestions..

hi askdoc….which one i shoud follow kaplan internal medicine notes or stepup to medicine for ck. i m confused some info are missing in kaplan and some are present in stepup…and step up is more or less arranged nicely and facts are given very elegantly…kaplan is jumbled and congested dont knw what to follow

Hi chibekee,

The problem with doing self-review when you have already failed is that the chance that you will do better this time is drastically slower. You will need to first find out what you did wrong in your review and how to do it right this time. If you can’t diagnose what your problems were, maybe talking with someone who has successfully taken the exam before will help. Otherwise you may need to join a prep course that is willing to work through your problems with you. You can read my blog for various tips on how to prep properly but that is all they are, tips. You need to diagnose what went wrong with your prep and correct them accordingly.

thanks for the reply.i graduated 2007.Ok,i’ll go for the step 1 again.I think its best too.Pls tell me how to restart my prep and how long i’ll need.Pls i cant afford to fail again,and i’m more than willing to do my best.is there a time-table or something,just anything at all,or is there a site,or anything.Pls askdoc i NEED your advice and help.I’m ready to start by monday,i’m already over my failure.Will 4 months be ok for me?

Hi chibekee,

Really sorry that you failed Step 1. But its not the end of the world. Just do better next time. I think you need to focus on Step 1 right now. Failing both step 1 and step 2ck is worse. So take a few days off. You need to mourn and get over this. Then restart your prep. Are you an old IMG or a new grad? There is a way to prep properly and you need to do it right in order to do your best in this exam.

hi askdoc,
ijust failed my step 1 with 172/66.i really need to start preparing for step 2 ck,or even the step 1 again.i’m an IMG,and just came to usa about 3 mths ago.i know no on e and will need a lot of help and advice.I need to make not below 90 in any exams i’m going to take again,but i dont know how to start.How long will it take me to prepare for step 1 again,and then step 2 ck?ihave kaplan lecture notes.but right now i’m sooooo confused.Pls i need your help.
